Helaman 5:7-13

What we learned...
"God won't save you and leave you stuck in the pit of sin but will throw you down a ladder to help you out." (Shaylee)

"Helaman told his sons not to do good works so they can boast of them." (Jaron)

"You need to repent and pull yourself out of sin. You can't rely on Christ alone to do it for you." (Brandon)

"Remember that King Benjamin said you can only be saved through the Atonement of Jesus Christ." (Maycee & Mom)

"If you build your faith on a strong foundation of the gospel of Jesus you can withstand the temptations and trials of the devil." (Kenyon)

"It doesn't say that if we build the foundation of our lives upon the Savior Jesus Christ and His gospel that we will not have storms beat upon us but that those storms won't drag us down to misery and hopelessness. Our lives won't fall apart. The Lord will help us through those tough times and be fine. That is a promise. Hold on to the promises in this verse, Helaman 5:12, for they will help you through the dark and difficult times of your life as it did for me." (Dad)

What we learned...
"Nephi was no longer in the position of the judgement seat and gave it to a man named Cezoram." (Shaylee)

"A lot of Nephites were becoming wicked." (Jaron)

"The Nephites laws were corrupted because they were decided by the voice of the people, and the majority of the people were wicked." (Maycee & Dad)

"Helaman decided to step down from the judgement seat so that he could become a missionary and preach the gospel." (Kenyon)

"Helaman named his sons after Lehi and Nephi so that they would remember them and their good works and to follow their righteous examples." (Dad)

Helaman 4:15-26

What we learned...
"The Nephites started to listen to Moroniah, Nephi and Lehi and started to repent." (Maycee & Mom)

"The Nephites decided to not get more of their land back from the Lamanites." (Jaron)

"The Nephites recognized that they weren't being righteous and that they needed to repent to have God's blessings." (Shaylee)

"The Nephites realized that there were way more Lamanites than them and that if they didn't repent they would perish." (Kenyon)

"The Nephites realized that they were transgressing and didn't have the Lord on their side to protect them, and they were outnumbered." (Brandon)

"The Nephites became weak, no longer had the Spirit with them and no longer were protected and preserved by the Lord because of their iniquity. All of those blessings were dependent on their faithfulness to the Lord. So the Lord wasn't punishing them but rather they lost His blessings and were facing the full consequences of their bad choices." (Dad)

What we learned...
"Moronihah was able to regain many of the lands that was lost to the Lamanites." (Maycee & Mom)

"Many of those in the church became prideful." (Jaron)


"The dissenter Nephites wanted to stir up the Lamanites to battle against the Nephites but they were too afraid." (Brandon)

"The Nephites gain possession of half of their land back." (Shaylee)

"The Nephites were contending with themselves so it made it easy for the Lamanites to attack them." (Kenyon)

"The Nephites prosperity ended and their afflictions from the Lamanites were all due to many of them being prideful and contentious, persecuting and mocking the poor and humble. Pride leads to divisions and eventually a fall of a people if they don't repent." (Dad)

"When the people of the Lord's church started to get prideful they persecuted others." (Brandon)

"Pride is of the natural man, and we shouldn't be prideful." (Kenyon)

"Helaman died, and his son Nephi took over as chief judge." (Shaylee)

"The Nephites rejoiced in the church's prosperity, and they had peace for over two years." (Maycee & Dad)


"The humble people of the church who were being persecuted prayed and fasted often and their humility and faith grew stronger and they were filled with peace and joy and became sanctified and purified." (Dad)

"The best way to avoid the deceptions and temptations of the devil is to study the scriptures." (Kenyon)

"If we hold fast to the word of God it will lead us down the straight and narrow path and unto eternal life." (Dad)

"The government thought that all was well in the land, but little did they know that the Gadianton robbers were among them but hadn't done anything yet." (Brandon)

"There was still great contention in the forty seventh and eighth year." (Jaron)

"During this time of peace the church was very prosperous with thousands being baptized unto repentance." (Dad)

"We don't have many of the records that they had, only a small portion." (Brandon)

"The people in the land northward were able to build many cities of wood and cement." (Maycee & Mom)

"They built many cities of both wood and cement." (Jaron)


"There were records among the Nephites that were passed down from generation to generation until the extinction of the Nephites." (Kenyon)

"Wood was shipped in and so they had wood and cement in their cities." (Shaylee)


"Many of the people of Ammon left the land Jershon and migrated to the land northward." (Dad)

What we learned...
"The people in the land northward made their houses out of cement." (Maycee & Mom)

"The people who moved northward inherited the lands that were not desolate." (Kenyon)

"The only resource that these lands didn't have much of was wood because of the destruction of the land from the people who were there before." (Brandon)


"They had very little timber so they built houses out of cement." (Jaron)

"Because of little timber that they had they did not cut down the trees they had but let them grow big so they could get more wood." (Shaylee)

"They ended up shipping wood up from the land southward to get more of it." (Dad)
