QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

2 Nephi 1:28  (Dad)
Q:   What did Lehi tell Laman, Lemuel, Sam and the sons of Ishmael that if they did they would not perish? (Dad)
A:   "Hearken unto Nephi." (Brandon)  "Why?"  (Dad)  "He won't go astray." (Kenyon

2 Nephi 1:29-30  (Kenyon)
Q:   What if they didn't hearken unto Nephi? (Dad)
A:   "That he would take away his blessing from them." (Kenyon)  "Yes, Lehi's blessing upon them was conditional upon hearkening unto Nephi because he knew that Nephi would not go astray since he had been tested many, many times and stayed true to the Lord throughout even when Lehi himself murmured against the Lord when Nephi broke his bow."  (Dad)

Q:   Who else did Lehi say was blessed for following Nephi? (Dad)
A:   "Zoram, because he was a true friend of Nephi, and he led him out of Jerusalem." (Kenyon

2 Nephi 1:31  (Brandon)

Q:   What blessing was Zoram's seed going to receive according to Lehi? (Dad)
A:    "They will dwell in prosperity and nothing will harm or disturb it forever." (Brandon)  "Nothing? Was that blessing unconditional?"  (Dad)  "As long as they're faithful." (Brandon)

2 Nephi 1:32  (Maycee)

Q:   So how was this land of promise consecrated to them if they kept the commandments? (Dad)
A:   "Security of Zoram's seed and his seed." (Kenyon

Q:   What does he mean be security? (Dad)
A:   "Protection from Laman and Lemuel's seed." (Brandon)  "The devil." (Kenyon)  "All throughout history peoples and nations try to conquer each other and take their lands and possessions and make them slaves, just like what happened to Jerusalem after the Lord led them out of it. So yes, he's saying that the Lord has blessed the promised land as a land where the people could be secure and free if they remembered the Lord and kept His commandments. But I also agree with Kenyon that we receive spiritual protection as well when we keep the commandments. So you're both right."  (Dad)

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

2 Nephi 1:22  (Maycee)
Q:   So why did Lehi want them to be men of God, united in all things? (Dad)
A:   "That way you won't be cursed and have God's justice upon you." (Brandon)

2 Nephi 1:23  (Jaron)

Q:   What does Lehi tell Laman and Lemuel to do? (Dad)
A:   "Put on the armor of righteousness." (Jaron)  "Stop being wicked, and start following God and be righteous." (Shaylee)

Q:   What does armor do? (Dad)
A:   "Protect you." (Jaron)

Q:   What does it protect us from? (Dad)
A:   "The wicked" (Jaron)  "The devil." (Shaylee)  "The devil's temptations." (Brandon)

2 Nephi 1:24  (Brandon)

Q:   What else did Lehi tell Laman and Lemuel? (Dad)
A:   "Stop rebelling against their brother [Nephi] because he saved their lives in the wilderness. He told them that he [Nephi] had suffered much because of them." (Brandon)

2 Nephi 1:25  (Shaylee)

Q:   What did Lehi say Laman and Lemuel falsely accused Nephi of? (Dad)
A:   "They said Nephi was seeking to get power over them, but he wasn't. He was seeking the glory of God." (Shaylee

Q:   Can you think of an example that proves Nephi wasn't seeking power and authority over them? Remember when Laman and Lemuel tried to bow down and worship Nephi? What did Nephi tell them?  (Dad)
A:   "He told them not to because he was their brother but instead they should worship God. So if he truly wanted to rule over them he would have had them worship and serve him when he had that opportunity."  (Dad)

2 Nephi 1:26  (Mom)

Q:   Why did Laman and Lemuel get so angry and murmur at the things Nephi said to them? (Dad)
A:   "Because they were wicked, and they did not want to know the truth." (Shaylee)  "Exactly right. The wicked or guilty take the truth to be hard."  (Dad)

2 Nephi 1:27  (Dad)

Q:   Whose words did Lehi say that Nephi spoke unto them? (Dad)
A:   "God's." (Shaylee)  "Yes! The prophet are the messengers but the message they deliver is from the Lord. So if we get mad at what the prophets teach then we're getting mad at the Lord because it's His words that they are giving us."  (Dad)

Q:   So why would Lehi be fine with his seed being cursed if it was the Lord's will? (Dad)
A:   "Because the Lord knows what He's doing and what punishment they should get." (Kenyon)  "The Lord knows what's going to happen and what's best. So what the Lord's will will be done." (Brandon)

Q:   So how can being cursed be a blessing? (Dad)
A:   "It teaches them the importance of repentance." (Brandon)  "Yes, if the Lord blessed us and let us be comfortable in sin then we would not feel compelled to repent. So by cursing us  the we are humbled and will hopefully turn to the Lord and repent, and then the curse will be lifted."  (Dad)

2 Nephi 1:20  (Maycee)

"So this is one of the most repeated lessons from the Book of Mormon - when we keep the Lord's commandments we will be blessed and prosper and when we don't we will be cut off from His presence, which means we lose the Holy Ghost, and if we don't repent we will be permanently cut off from His presence meaning that we will not live with Him again." (Dad)

2 Nephi 1:21  (Shaylee)

Q:   What's the thing that Lehi wants from his sons before he dies? (Dad)

We must continue throughout out lives to stay on the straight and narrow path and repent when we get off of it or else we won't make it to the tree of life and have eternal life."  (Dad)
