QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

1 Nephi 1:1

Q:  Nephi said he was born of goodly parents. What was one thing Nephi said that his father did, which good parents do?  (Dad)
A:  "He was taught about Heavenly Father." (Shaylee)

Q:  Nephi said that he was highly favored of the Lord in all his days, yet he also said that he had many afflictions. Most people probably don't feel blessed when bad things happen in their lives. Why do you think that Nephi felt he was so blessed when he had so many problems? What can we learn from Nephi's example? (Dad)
A.  "Even when we are blessed we will still have problems." (Shaylee)

1 Nephi 1:4

Q:  What did the Lord do to prevent Jerusalem from being destroyed? (Dad)
A:  "He talked to prophets, and they prophesied to the people that needed to repent." (Shaylee)

1 Nephi 1:5

Q:  Sometimes people, even prophets, aren't excited about telling people they need to repent. After the Lord told Jonah to preach repentance to the people of Nineveh, Jonah ran away instead and ended up being swallowed by a whale because of it. So Jonah didn't really want to do it. Sometimes we are asked to do things that we don't want to do. What do you call it when you do something that you don't want to? You're do doing it half...what? (Dad)
A:  "Half-hearted." (Kenyon)
Q:  Did Lehi want to preach repentance to the people in Jerusalem? If so, what evidence is there? (Dad)
A:  "Yes, he prayed with all his heart." (Shaylee) "Yes, Lehi didn't preach half-heartedly. He wanted to help save the people. He truly cared about them." (Dad)

1 Nephi 1:6

Q:  Why do you think Lehi trembled and shook from what the Lord showed him? (Dad)
A:  "He was scared because the Lord was showing what would happen to the city if they didn't repent." (Brandon)

1 Nephi 1:7

Q:  What did Lehi do after he had seen the vision? (Dad)
A:  "He cast himself upon his bed because he was overwhelmed by what he had seen." (Kenyon)
Q:  Who else can you think of who also was physically drained after seeing a vision?  (Dad)
A:  "Joseph Smith. He collapsed while trying to climb over the fence after talking to his dad about the vision he just had." (Brandon)  "So visions can overwhelm you both spiritually and physically." (Dad)
