What we learned...
"To get out of bondage the Nephites had to be humble instead of prideful." (Kenyon)

"The Lord delivered the Nephites out of bondage because they humbled themselves, and they prayed." (Shaylee)

"When wicked kings are placed they bring other wicked people to power, and they take over the whole system." (Brandon)

"The wicked kings pervert the ways of all righteousness. And King Mosiah said that the Nephites don't want to all that bad stuff to happen to them so they don't need a king." (Maycee & Mom)

"You don't exactly want a king because lots of kings are wicked and can do bad stuff." (Jaron)

"Wicked kings get rid of righteous laws and disregards God commandments and instead creates his own unrighteous laws and enforces them by force and bloodsheed."  (Dad)

What we learned...
"It's much better to have judges instead of kings because kings have so much power to create iniquity and destruction whereas the judges will keep each other in check." (Kenyon)

"King Mosiah is reminding them of how wicked king Noah was and how he was a bad leader because he persuaded them to do bad things." (Shaylee)

"King Mosiah stresses the importance of having judges instead of a king stating it easy to come by a wicked king which could drive them away from the gospel." (Brandon)

"It's better that a man be judged of God than man because man is not always just but God is always just." (Maycee & Mom)

"If you commit iniquity, you'll be punished." (Jaron)

"King Mosiah taught that the only time it is good to have a king is when the king would establish the laws of God and judge justly. The problem is that you can't guarantee to always having a righteous king like that but instead the natural man and tendency is to abuse power, which the founding fathers of our nations learned from history and were inspired to create a government with checks and balances to prevent any one person or group of people from having too much power and abusing it."  (Dad)

What we learned...
"Mosiah wrote to the people how Aaron didn't want to be king and how if they chose another that it could split up the people and destroy the church." (Kenyon)

"Aaron was not desirous to be king but instead went on a mission to preach to the Lamanites." (Shaylee)

"To resolve having the issue of none of Mosiah's sons wanting to be king Mosiah will rule until he dies and then they'll be ruled by judges." (Brandon)

"All the people were sad after hearing the translation of the Jaredite plates." (Maycee & Mom)

"King Mosiah passed the brass plates down to Alma the younger." (Jaron)

"King Mosiah knew that having a righteous king is not easy to maintain and worried that having that kind of power could corrupt his son Aaron making him go back to the wicked ways of his youth and understood that it was better to decentralize the power to many righteous judges. That way it would be more difficult or take longer for all the judges to become wicked and lead the people astray." (Dad)

What we learned...
"King Mosiah had a problem because none of his sons wanted to be king." (Kenyon)

"The Lord told Mosiah not to worry and that He would keep his sons safe while they were on their mission." (Shaylee)

"The fact that the sons of Mosiah kept trying to convince their father to go on their mission to the Lamanites showed their devotion." (Brandon)

"The sons of Mosiah couldn't bear to think of people dying without the gospel." (Maycee &  Mom)

"The sons of Mosiah did plead with their father many days to go to the land of Nephi." (Jaron)

"The Lord showed mercy upon Alma the younger and sons of Mosiah even though they were the vilest of sinners but they still suffered much for their sins. So even though the Lord will forgive us when we repent we still suffer consequences of our bad choices. Repentance doesn't take away all suffering and the consequences of our choices. It just makes it so that we don't pay the full price of our sins and that we can be made clean through the atonement of the Savior so that we can be worthy to return to live with Him and Heavenly Father again."  (Dad)

"For Alma to repent of his sins he had to go through a lot of suffering. It was not easy." (Kenyon)

"Alma suffered a lot because of the way he treated the church and how he acted." (Shaylee)

"When you intentionally sin with intent to repent later it ends up being really hard to back out of the sin." (Brandon)

"How they got born again is that they have to repent." (Maycee)

"Alma was dumb, or couldn't talk." (Jaron)

"They fasted and prayed that Alma would regain his speech and strength. So fasting and prayer is able to help people spiritually and physically." (Mom)

"Alma Sr. rejoiced when he heard about the state of his son because he knew that the Lord answered his prayers and that he was in the Lord's hands. He understood that our spiritual state is far more important than our physical state since our spiritual state determines our eternal welfare."  (Dad)

"For as long as one repents, truly repenting not saying, the Lord will forgive." (Brandon)

"He would say sorry to them if they repented." (Maycee)

"The Lord is not going to give you a certain number of chances to repent." (Jaron)

"Alma thought that what the Lord said was so important that he wrote it down. We should do the same by writing our spiritual experiences in our journal." (Mom)

"Alma judged the people based on the Lord's standard so he was able to make righteous judgements, which solved the concerns he had about what to do with those who were taken in sin. So the lesson is to not rely on our own judgment but to find out the Lord's will and follow it instead."  (Dad)

"Those who dissented from the church were the minority at this time but they were growing in numbers and influence and caused many in the church to be led away, which is like what is very similar to what's going on today."  (Dad)
