1 Nephi 16:14-16
Q: What did Lehi's family eat in the wilderness? (Dad)A: "Animals and wild beasts." (Kenyon)
Q: What did they use to get the animals? (Dad)
A: "Bows and arrows, and slings and stones." (Brandon)
Q: Where were most of the animals, and how did they find them? (Dad)
A: "The more fertile parts of the wilderness, and they found them using the ball, the Liahona. In the borders near the Red Sea." (Shaylee)
Q: Why didn't they grow crops to feed their family? (Dad)
A: "They were going to be on the move and wouldn't have enough time to grow them." (Kenyon) "Because they needed their seeds to grow in the new world." (Brandon) "Also they were traveling in the desert where most of the land is really difficult to grow anything since most of it is sand and it gets very little water." (Dad)
1 Nephi 16:18
Q: What happened when Nephi went out to hunt for food? (Dad)A: "He broke his bow." (Shaylee)
Q: How did Laman and Lemuel react? (Dad)
A: "They were mad at him because it was a fine bow, which was hard to make, and also they didn't obtain any food." (Kenyon)
Q: Why didn't Laman and Lemuel just hunt for the animals? (Dad)
A: "They were too busy complaining." (Brandon) "They were bad shots." (Kenyon) "They were too lazy and didn't want to do it." (Shaylee) "It doesn't say why, but maybe it was because they didn't have any bows because it took a lot of work to make them, and Shaylee is right that they're lazy. So they probably used the slingshots, which would be much harder to kill animals with than a bow and arrow because you would have to be a lot closer and you would have to hit the animal in the head." (Dad)
