QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

1 Nephi 17:22
Q:   So what lie did Laman, Lemuel and Ishmael's family tell to justify rebelling against Lehi and Nephi? (Dad)
A:   "They said that the people in Jerusalem were righteous." (Shaylee)  "Yes, but righteous people heed the words of prophets not persecute them like they did Lehi and Jeremiah."  (Dad)

1 Nephi 17:23
Q:   What was an example they used to say the people in Jerusalem were righteous? (Dad)
A:    "Their fathers were led away by the Lord out of Egypt." (Shaylee)

Q:   Why is this not an example of the people in Jerusalem being righteous? (Dad)
A:    "They're not connected to the example because they're not the people in Jerusalem." (Shaylee)  "That's right. The Israelites that the Lord led out of Egypt were not alive when they lived in Jerusalem. So you can't claim the righteousness of your ancestors. Everyone is judged by their own works. Plus that's a bad example because they had to wander in the wilderness for 40 years after fleeing Egypt before the Lord brought them to the land of their inheritance because they were a hard-hearted, murmuring people."  (Dad)

1 Nephi 17:24

Q:   Nephi didn't give credit to the Israelites for being led out of Egypt. Instead who did he give the credit to? (Dad)
A:   "The Lord." (Kenyon)  "Moses." (Shaylee)  "Yes, both. He said the Lord commanded Moses to lead them out of bondage."  (Dad)

1 Nephi 17:27

Q:   What happened to the Egyptians who were chasing the Israelites as they fled out of Egypt? (Dad)
A:   "They drowned in the Red Sea." (Jaron)

1 Nephi 17:28

Q:   What did the Israelites eat when they were in the wilderness? (Dad)
A:   "Manna or bread." (Shaylee)

Q:   How did they get it? (Dad)
A:   "From the Lord. Every day but Sunday they would wake up in the morning and collect what they needed for that day, except for Saturday they would collect for Sunday also." (Kenyon)
