A: "It teaches them the importance of repentance." (Brandon) "Yes, if the Lord blessed us and let us be comfortable in sin then we would not feel compelled to repent. So by cursing us the we are humbled and will hopefully turn to the Lord and repent, and then the curse will be lifted." (Dad)

"So this is one of the most repeated lessons from the Book of Mormon - when we keep the Lord's commandments we will be blessed and prosper and when we don't we will be cut off from His presence, which means we lose the Holy Ghost, and if we don't repent we will be permanently cut off from His presence meaning that we will not live with Him again."
