QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

1 Nephi 11:1

Q:  What was Nephi doing before he was caught away in a vision? (Dad)
A:  "He was pondering." (Shaylee)  "He was pondering about what his father saw, his vision."  (Kenyon)

Q:  What does mean to ponder? (Dad)
A:  "Pondering means to really think hard about something."  (Kenyon)  "Pondering requires quiet time. Time where you are not pressured or in a hurry but can relax and think about the meaning of things and ask the Lord for answers. Prayer is an important part of pondering. Just like fasting without prayer is starving yourself, pondering without prayer is just thinking. Pondering goes much deeper than thinking and it is how the Lord reveals the greater truths and mysteries to us, including gaining a testimony. We must pay the price to get the answer, which does not come from mere casual thinking."  (Dad)

1 Nephi 11:2-3

Q:  What did Nephi tell the Spirit what he wanted to see when he was asked? (Dad)
A:  "He wanted to see what his father saw." (Brandon)  "Yes, he wanted to see the vision of the Tree of Life."  (Dad)

1 Nephi 11:4

Q:  What did the Spirit ask Nephi after he asked to see what his father saw? (Dad)
A:  "Do you believe what your father saw?" (Shaylee)

Q:  Why do you think the Spirit ask Nephi that? (Dad)
A:   "Because he wanted to know if he wanted to see it because he was unbelieving or whether he wanted to know so he could learn more."  (Kenyon)

Q:  Do you think the Spirit would have shown him the vision if Nephi had said that he asked to get proof because he didn't believe? (Dad)
A:  "No, he wouldn't have because it would show that Nephi was unbelieving and wanted to be shown a sign to believe. You need to have faith first." (Brandon)  "He wouldn't because he wouldn't be righteous." (Shaylee)

1 Nephi 11:5-6

Q:  Why did the Spirit praise the Lord loudly after Nephi responded to his question? (Dad)
A:  "Because he was glad that Nephi had believed in the Son of God, Jesus Christ."  (Mom)  "Yes, because of Nephi's faith he was shown the vision, which made the Spirit very, very happy. Obviously he wanted to show Nephi the vision, but a prerequisite of showing him it was that he first believed."  (Dad)

1 Nephi 11:7

Q:  Who did the Spirit say that Nephi would see after he saw the Tree of Life? (Dad)
A:  "He would see a man descending out of heavenThe son of God, Jesus." (Shaylee)
